Clean grout keeps your home looking fresh and your tile looking like new. Follow these grout cleaner tips and keep your home fresh and clean.
Head to your local hardware store and get a grout cleaning brush. Then use some warm water and scrub in a circular motion. Then let it dry.
To take your cleaning up a notch by mixing equal parts of water and vinegar. This mixture will help break up dirt buildup and mild stains.
Spray the mixture on your grout and let it sit for five minutes. Then use your brush to scrub your grout clean.
If you need more cleaning power, create a paste out of baking soda and water. Cover your grout lines with the paste. Then spray the vinegar mixture you made in the last step.
Wait for the mixture to stop foaming and then scrub with your brush. Once you’re done, rinse your grout clean with plain water.
If you have more stubborn stains, then you’ll need something stronger. Hydrogen Peroxide poured directly onto your grout or made into a paste with baking soda will break up those stubborn stains.
If you have stains that absolutely refuse to move, then use oxygen bleach on them. Avoid using chlorine bleach.
While chlorine bleach is ok in extreme cases, it should be used sparingly. Over time chlorine bleach is too harsh for your grout, and it’ll begin to erode.
If you do decide to use chlorine bleach, thoroughly rinse the grout before you do. This especially goes for the vinegar you applied earlier. Vinegar and bleach create a highly toxic gas called chlorine gas.
Use a tactic of the professionals and try an environmentally friendly alternative to harsh chemicals. Steam your grout.
The heat and moisture can get into your grout and break up the stubborn dirt and grime. You can also use your steam cleaner on several other hard surfaces throughout your home.
The best way to keep your grout clean is to clean it consistently from week to week. Give it a vinegar wipe each week. You could also use alcohol to clean up the mildew and mould.
By following these grout cleaner tips, you can stay confident in the fact that your home is clean and your floors look great. Start with the gentlest form of cleaning. Then work your way through the stronger cleaning methods to take care of more stubborn dirt and stains.
